If one word could be used to describe the Teamster’s Guild for the last 10 years it would be stagnant. Once the number 2 guild, they have slowly declined to 6th largely because of poor management and the sharp rise of the Merchant Seaman’s Guild. Recent developments may be changing this however. A recent internal takeover has placed Bailey McCormack in charge. A young upstart with fresh ideas, Bailey is the first Guildmaster of the Teamster’s with a formal education. One of his first acts as guildmaster borrowed a page from Dominick Noretti’s book. He discharged a majority of the old guild lieutennants and brought in all new people. Next, he forgave all back dues and tariffs to bring even the disenfranchised guildmembers back into the fold. Finally, he declared a 3 year moratorium on guild fees. For the next three years, Teamster Guild shippers are free to reinvest what they would normally earn in guild fees as long as they use the money to improve their internal workings. As a result, they have forged strong alliances with the Metalworker and Cartwrights Guilds as shipping companies begin to rework and rebuild outdated wagons and storage facilities. To offset costs, the Teamster’s negotiated a trade of slaves for shipping services with the Slaver’s guild. For the next 3 years, the Slaver’s receive at cost shipping while the Teamsters gain the ownership of some 400 slaves for use as loaders and administrative personel.
Bailey’s next act was to announce that the Teamsters were back through several well orcestrated “incidents” where Merchant Seaman vessels were sunk by “pirates” or robbed by “untrustworthy dockhands”. This effectively eroded support for the Merchant Seamen and forced Dominick Noretti to put in several personal appearances to assure the safety of goods shipped through his guild.
The Teamster’s are currently enjoying their reneissance but it is unknown how long this will last. Bailey has done well but he is still a amateur in a world full of professionals. Worse still, he has attracted the attention of Dominick Noretti, better known as “The Fox”. Many whisper that the youngster is no match for the old trickster. Others are not so sure.
The Teamster’s are currently holding up for the winter with runs to the south occupying the bulk of their time. Spring will tell whether or not Noretti’s damage controll will be sufficient.
