Adonna LaBrossiere |
If one word could sum up the core of Adonna LaBrossiere¹s character it would be spite. No other leader of a great house has quite the capacity for hate that Adonna does. She defines herself by it and defines the actions of her house by it. Those close to her say that she has a personal motto: "I waited 100 years for revenge and when the time came I took it quickly."
Everything that Adonna has, she earned. She started out in the ramshakle poor villiage that exists outside the walls of Athkatla. She grew up hating those who lived inside the city for their riches and their lives of ease. She channeled this hate into a relentless goal of self improvement. Her first step was her appearance. She stole fine clothes from within the city. Using these, she was able to land a job as a receptionist within the mages guild. Once there, she used her considerable charm to talk an apprentice into teaching her magic at night. She formed a relationship of conveinence and once she had gained sufficient ability she did away with him. Now that the she could be recognized as a Mage, she petitioned for guild membership and was apprenticed to an archmage. Adonna¹s quest for power allowed her to quickly learn all that her master was willing to teach. She had a particular aptitude for scrying and detection spells and it wasn¹t long before her master ended her apprecticeship. It isn¹t known if he simply thought she was
ready or if he wanted to be rid of her.
Regardless, she signed on as House LaBrossiere¹s House Mage when the former House Mage was found to be involved in affairs with both Annette and Michelle LaBrossiere; wife and first daughter to Anton LaBrossiere. Anton was furious and fired the House Mage, divorced his wife and sent his daughter to Cavelli¹s School where she might, "Learn a propoer use for her charms." Annette was devastated and left Athkatla a disgrace. Professing her innocence the entire time. Soon afterward Adonna began a whirlwind courtship of Anton. At first he was not interested in Adonna but she persisted and he relented. They were married after seven months and she bore him their first child less than a year later. Court gossips often remark that the marriage would not have happened if Anton had been more careful. Apparently there is only 6 months between the birth and his anniversary.
Marriage for Anton and Adonna was never smooth. Servants often told of fights that would rage for days and leave the house breakables in need of mending. Apparently Adonna was never satisfied with Anton¹s attention to his house. She always felt that his attention to detail was lacking.
The attention to detail is apparently what caused Anton to meet with his downfall. Anton was making quite a name for himself within the Shipbuilders Guild and was on his way to becoming quite wealthy. Apparently his rise was not fast enough. The House Mage for House Eldon overheard a plot between Anton, Marcus Eldon and Wil Tumlin of the Fisherman¹s Guild to delay shipment on several new cargo vessels to the Merchant Seaman¹s Guild in an attempt to shore up the waining Teamster¹s Guild. He reported this to
Dominic Noretti who was able to expose the plot and Anton and Marcus were found guilty of conspiracy to prohibit free trade. Both were recently sentenced to 10 years of forced servitude. Tumlin was found innocent of all charges.
Adonna assumed leadership of House LaBrossiere and vowed that she would never commit the same mistakes as her husband. She divorced him and branded him an embarassment. He was sold to a member of the Miner¹s Guild and, unfortunately, died in an accident 2 months later. An investigation found the mine foreman guilty of negligence but he fled Amn before further investigation could be completed.
Adonna now rules House LaBrossiere with an iron fist. She is known for being quick to anger and bears several grudges that she wants to see to the end. Rumor has it that her first target is none other than Tess Danwick.
